Study tips for AQA Biology
Use the AQA specification as a checklist — tick off each point as you revise it.
Draw and label diagrams from memory, then check them against your notes.
Learn the required practicals — examiners love to ask about method and variables.
Practise six-mark questions by writing structured answers with connectives like 'therefore' and 'as a result'.
Exam technique
AQA Biology exams reward students who read the question carefully and answer precisely. Here are the key habits that separate good answers from great ones.
Command words matter — 'describe' wants facts, 'explain' wants reasons, 'evaluate' wants both sides.
Use correct scientific terminology — 'mitosis' not 'cell copying', 'diffusion' not 'spreading out'.
For calculation questions, always show your working — you can still earn method marks even with a wrong answer.
In six-mark questions, structure your answer: state the point, explain the mechanism, give the consequence.
