The voice behind the words
About Graham Johnston
Educator. Narrator. Storyteller.
Twenty years in the classroom
Before the microphone, there was the classroom. For twenty years, Graham Johnston worked as a secondary school leader and science educator — spending each day finding ways to make complex ideas land clearly, to hold a room's attention, and to make learning feel like something worth caring about.
Training large groups of people — students, staff, whole-school cohorts — demands more than knowledge. It demands presence, pacing, and the ability to read an audience. Those are the same qualities that make a great narrator, and they are qualities Graham has spent two decades refining.
That background shapes everything about how he approaches a script. Every project receives the same dedication and professionalism he brought to the classroom: thorough preparation, careful attention to the listener's experience, and a genuine commitment to getting it right.
Science taught me that precision and wonder are not opposites — they belong together. That is what I bring to every narration.
Graham has a particular affinity for science and science fiction — genres where the ideas are as important as the story, and where a narrator must earn the listener's trust before taking them somewhere extraordinary. Whether it is the rigour of a non-fiction science text or the imaginative sweep of speculative fiction, he brings the same careful, considered voice.
His love of reading runs deep. Sharing a learning experience — whether in a lecture hall or through a pair of headphones — is, at its heart, the same act: one person giving another access to something they did not have before.
George & Seth — studio supervisors
Professional by nature
Graham's approach is defined by professionalism and dedication. Every project is treated with the same rigour: scripts are studied, characters are considered, and the final recording reflects a genuine investment in the work. Deadlines are met. Communication is clear. The process is as smooth as the finished audio.
He records in a purpose-built home studio, acoustically treated and equipped for broadcast-quality production — giving clients the confidence that what they hear in the sample is what they will receive in the final files.
Off the clock
When he is not in the booth, Graham can usually be found in the company of George the cat and Seth the dog — two animals who have strong opinions about studio time and are entirely unbothered by deadlines.
